On Friday 30 November an 80 ton mobile crane and heavy machinery float were hired to move the change-over boiler from the yard entry to the work site. This was made possible by generous donations from 6029 Club Members and other members of the 6029 Project team.
Saturday 1 December was a scheduled work-day attended by “Action Man” Alan Gardner; David Griffiths; Roger Maynard; David Carroll [a new hand, to whom a warm welcome is extended] Shaun Barker; Howard Moffat and Peter Reynell. Work focused around the cab andboiler area in further preparation for their removal. The change-over boiler had all 52 of its wash-out plugs removed and labeled in preparation for its internal inspection.

Due to a torrential downpour work was suspended early and the workforce adjourned to the comfort and splendour of Trevor Boreham’s parlour-car.
Next workday.. Sunday 16 December..ALL WELCOME……
Future workdays will focus on the strip down of the boiler in the locomotive on 6029 as follows
In parallel to the above the change over boiler will be internally inspected by the contract boiler inspector. Any recommended repair work will be carried out and the boiler will then be sealed for hydrostatic test. At this stage all boiler mounting surfaces will be renewed/ repaired as required. All boiler studs and bolts will be replaced new with STD carbon (CS 1020) specs as per AS 1228.
After the successful hydrostatic test as per AS 3788 all overhauled steam fittings will be secured to the boiler in preparation for the steam test. The smoke stack and injectors from 6029 will have to be temp fitted to the boiler to facilitate this test.
The two STD NSWGR pressure gauges will be sent to a NATA approved contractor for calibration and certification.
On the last work day for 2007 work proceeded
towards removing the ash pan to liberate the old boiler
removing the dome cover to reveal, for the first time the condition of the top tubes in the replacement boiler; and
continuing collecting pieces previously removed and stored.
The drivers and firemans seats and cab windows are now at Eveleigh for repair and restoration.
The cab window work is well underway with the new frames having been machined, the new laminated safety glass cut and the investigation on manufacturing some of the missing brass corner braces underway.
